Get your Medicare registration letter

Your Medicare registration letter shows your provider numbers. You upload it to HaltH to register for private health claiming.

Your Medicare registration letter confirms you're registered with Medicare and lists your Medicare provider numbers. This is the letter you upload to HaltH to register for private health claiming. See Step 2 of setting up your providers.

What happens after you upload it

  • Private health: HaltH reviews your letter, usually within 1–2 business days. Once approved, you can claim private health at checkout.

  • Medicare and DVA: this is a separate registration with Services Australia, using one HW027 form per provider and location. It's processed within 5 business days. See Register for Medicare and DVA claiming.

Option 1: Download it from HPOS (fastest)

If you have access to HPOS (Health Professional Online Services):

  1. Go to HPOS through Services Australia.

  2. Log in with PRODA.

  3. Select My linked services β†’ HPOS.

  4. Open My linked services β†’ My details.

  5. Go to My linked services β†’ Medicare (or your linked organisation).

  6. Download your Medicare Registration Letter.

The letter shows your name, your Medicare provider numbers and the practice locations they belong to.

Option 2: Request it through HPOS

If you can log in to HPOS but can't find the letter:

  1. Log in to HPOS.

  2. Go to Messages or My details.

  3. Request your Medicare Registration Letter.

Services Australia sends it to your HPOS inbox once it's processed.

Option 3: Call the eBusiness Service Centre

If you don't have HPOS access, or you're locked out, call 1800 700 199 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm local time). Ask for a copy of your Medicare registration letter. They can email or post it to you once they've verified your identity.

Common questions

I don't have PRODA or HPOS access
Set up PRODA first. Then you can link to HPOS and see your Medicare details.

My letter doesn't show all my locations
Medicare provider numbers are specific to each location. Make sure all your practice locations are linked in HPOS.

The letter looks old
That's usually fine, as long as it shows the provider number for the location you're registering. You can request an updated copy through HPOS if you need one.
